Don’t you just love Screenshots? whenever I get too fed up with something i’m drawing I like to take a screenshot  and then compare with previous screenshots to see it slowly evolve.
I find this to be really motivating.
Anyways, what you’re looking at is the first page of a little personal project based on this amazing song by El Gordo. El Gordo is an amazing artist and lately I’ve been obsessing over his music. He’s soooooo good! and I feel so proud to say he’s Guatemalan (born and raised, WHAT UP HOMEBOY?!).

Ahem.. where was I? Oh yeah! I’ll be posting up more screenshots as I progress. I’m not sure if there’s anyone out there reading this, but if there is… Hi! LET ME KNOW YOU EXIST.
That is all.
Cheers!

La Cuadra Comics #3: “Fiction Is Not Useless”

Hello! we are now halfway through May and so far my tumblr presence can only be compared to the number of Zompopos de Mayo I have spotted in the streets, which is ZERO!

But don’t fear! unlike the winged bugs, my absence has come to an end, and I shall share with you my latest comic, inspired by this study and soon to be published in the May-June issue of La Cuadra Magazine.

Here’s the original, hand-inked and hand-lettered version in the rough:

imageaaand here’s the final, clean and digitalized version. As you can see, it changed quite a bit, even the phrasing and the altogether feeling. But I think that was for the best. What do you guys think? which version do you like better?

I joined this “Illustration Deathmatch” group recently and they surprised me by puttin’ me up to competition less than a week after.

The challenge was simple: they gave us a scribble and we had to come up with an illustration based on its shape. Here’s what i had to work with:

Hello. I am the director/animator guy of Toh Kay’s With Any Sort Of Certainty video. You may have seen it. In fact, 55+k of you did in the first 48 hours. That is until the fine folks at (asshat record label) issued a takedown complaint to Youtube and Vimeo, for Tomas’ own original song and my own original animation. They took it off of my Vimeo account. That felt… weird. At this point, (asshat record label) is working their hardest to make sure the video goes away, possibly for good. The issues between Tomas and (asshat record label) go back through many acrimonious years, and I just happened to have my own work dragged into it by a record label trying to prove a point. They have lawyers. I do not. So I can’t fight them and it may take a long time for it to get ironed out enough that I can repost it again.
I worked very hard on this video. It means a lot to me. And I was so pleased and gratified to know that it meant a lot to some of you who saw it. Thanks so much for your emails and stuff. You guys are great. Both Tomas and I will have the video on our sites, but who knows how long that will last. And I want as many people to see it as possible, and to have it readily available for new people to see and hopefully connect with and enjoy.
And so, here is a download link for the full 1920x1080 video. It should be good for about 2 weeks. Enjoy it. Upload it anywhere and everywhere. Remix it. Torrent it. Blog it. Tumblr it. Tweet it. Um… print it out and post it on walls? I don’t know. Whatever the spirit moves you to do.
Neither of us want to see this thing we’ve worked on go away. You can’t ever really erase something from the internet, especially music and art. It just gets out there, that’s what’s so great about it. It lasts. And with your help it should only be a quick and easy Google search away from anyone who wants to see it.
Thanks so much for caring. Go and buy some stuff directly from Tomas and support him during this fucked up situation. And if you are so inclined, check out my work and my prints here.
Thanks!

"

During the act of reading engaging fiction, we can lose all sense of time. By the final chapter of the right book, we feel changed in our own lives, even if what we’ve read is entirely made up.

Research says that’s because while you’re engaged in fiction—unlike nonfiction—you’re given a safe arena to experience emotions without the need for self-protection. Since the events you’re reading about do not follow you into your own life, you can feel strong emotions freely.

The key metric the researchers used is “emotionally transported,” or how deeply connected we are to the story. Previous research has shown that when we read stories about people experiencing specific emotions or events it triggers activity in our brains as if we were right there in the thick of the action.

"

New study by Dutch researchers confirms previous theories that reading fiction makes you a better person by expanding your capacity for empathy.

Also see how storytelling makes us human.
